Cat-5e cable recommended for access control systems

Linear’s access control systems can use readily available, standard, low-cost, Category-5e cable for connecting remote devices (keypads, card readers, etc.) to the system’s PBUS terminals.

Category-5e (Cat-5e) cable contains four unshielded twisted pairs (4-UTP) of 24 AWG solid copper wire. Each wire pair is color coded for identification.

Refer to the diagram below for the recommended wire colors to use for each terminal when connecting Cat-5e cable. The maximum recommended length wire run from the system to a remote device is 500 feet.

➤ NOTE:The power and ground connections use two wires from a pair to provide additional current carrying capability.
